Tell us a bit about the Swiss German language?
The Swiss German dialects are basically remnants of the Middle Ages. The Germans gave themselves their High German about 200 years ago. Then, sensibly, the Swiss took over reading and writing in Hochdeutsch (High German) in school. Viele sprechen es nicht so gerne (many do not like to speak it), because it’s a foreign language and some people do not use it a lot.
