Kathy made a very simple suggestion – invite your neighbors to an apéro. Welcome them to your apartment, show them that you are a normal person, show them you live like a normal person, and above all tell them a little bit about yourself so that they have a sense of who you are. She also mentioned the optimal timing. Kathy said Sunday afternoons and evenings is when people are usually at home. So a good time may be late Sunday afternoon, something like 5pm, so that they then also have a chance to excuse themselves to go home for dinner at any time if they perhaps start feeling uncomfortable. Kathy suggested that this initial contact can prevent many of the commonly told horror stories of neighbors calling police on their neighbors they are not familiar with for flushing the toilet or otherwise making noise after 10pm.
